Why leathered marble needs proper evaluation
Marble is natural stone, and absorption can vary even within the same installation. Some pieces darken quickly when wet while others absorb more slowly. The finish, stone density, previous treatments and exposure all affect how a sealer performs.
What sealing can help with
A compatible penetrating sealer may reduce water and stain absorption while preserving the leathered appearance. It can also make routine cleaning more manageable. Sealing does not make stone maintenance-free, and it cannot correct poor drainage or existing mineral issues.
Avoid treating it like concrete pavers
Products made to create a heavy wet look on concrete pavers may not be the right choice for marble. Natural stone requires attention to vapor movement, color change, traction and chemical sensitivity.
Always test the appearance
Because leathered marble can vary, testing a small inconspicuous area is especially important. The test should be allowed to dry and cure so the final color and sheen can be evaluated before the full application.

Sun, humidity, irrigation, pool chemicals, leaves and organic growth all affect outdoor marble. Regular gentle cleaning and prompt stain removal are still important after sealing.
